{"id":83,"date":"2020-05-21T22:05:11","date_gmt":"2020-05-21T22:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.charltonneighbourhoodforum.org\/?page_id=83"},"modified":"2020-08-16T08:22:04","modified_gmt":"2020-08-16T08:22:04","slug":"why-a-neighbourhood-plan","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.charltonneighbourhoodforum.org\/index.php\/why-a-neighbourhood-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Why a Neighbourhood Plan?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The reasons, given below, are why we think a Neighbourhood Plan for Charlton is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Plan, when adopted, will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>ensure local people have a genuine say in the future of Charlton, and for local planning guidance to be shaped by the community;<\/li><li>recognise the value of the area\u2019s heritage, culture, community and education;<\/li><li>develop long-term, sustainable communities, that work on a local, human scale;<\/li><li>encourage high quality building design that enhances the local urban realm, and uniqueness of our area;<\/li><li>incorporate the principles of the Charlton Riverside Masterplan, while providing more detailed guidance, such as on building heights, location, design and massing;<\/li><li>build for the community, both existing and new, to take into account the needs of the people living in the neighbourhood;<\/li><li>get the right type of infrastructure (roads, footpaths, cycle lanes, schools, health centres, shops, playgrounds, etc) in place;<\/li><li>work with the existing business community to ensure that their value is recognised, protected and developed;<\/li><li>ensure that proposals for new development are managed through meaningful engagement with stakeholders;<\/li><li>be formally consulted on development proposals at an early stage, to steer good development to successful conclusions;<\/li><li>prevent the Council and the local community from being unduly dictated to by the financial targets of big developers. We want more housing, but not at any cost; and<\/li><li>hold the Council to account if it fails to represent the community.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The reasons, given below, are why we think a Neighbourhood Plan for Charlton is needed.
